Neighborhood racial composition, income, and distance to grocery retailers in Seattle

Abstract This article examines whether racial disparities exist in travel distances and times to grocery stores Seattle, WA. In contrast the findings of studies conducted other metropolitan cities, WA, has few food deserts. We find that distance time supermarkets vary with percentage specific ethnic populations. Greater Asian populations a census tract are associated shorter grocery, low income, vehicle access. For Hispanic population, greater increases predicted stores. income tracts more population is distance, those longer possibly due cultural differences diet.
